Oto kot
Most people look at cats and think 'what a life' - all we do is lie around in the sun, never having to lift a finger. But cats' lives aren't that idyllic. Cats are powerless, weak little creatures that injure easily. We don't have shells like turtles, nor wings like birds. We can't burrow into the ground like moles or change colors like a chameleon. The world has no idea how many cats are injured every day, how many of us meet a miserable end. – Haruki Murakami 'Kafka on the Shore' – 'Oto kot' (This is a cat) is an educational and social project aimed both at promoting conscious and responsible cat ownership as well as disseminating knowledge about feline health care. The project was inspired by observations made during visits in vet clinics, and the topics were developed in cooperation with veterinarians and cat owners alike. My intention was to present cats as autonomous entities that are equal partners in the human-animal relationship. My goal was to give cats a human voice, so that they could directly communicate their nature, desires and needs. 'Oto kot', a series of posters, was one of the three parts of my master's degree. The other two were an audiovisual installation 'Can you hear me? Can you see me?', and a theoretical essay 'Animals as material in contemporary art. The reflections on artistic freedom and moral responsibilities '. All three parts of the diploma dealt with redefining the human-animal relationship from a posthuman perspective. 'This is a cat' series of posters 70x100 cm digital print supervision: prof.
