CHOCHOŁY Sculpture Collective

The CHOCHOŁY Sculpture Collective was founded in 2013 by five young Polish artists: Agata Adamowska, Urszula Danielska, Misia Łukasiewicz, Faustyna Makaruk as well as myself. The group's origin can be traced back to their freshman year at the Faculty of Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Poland. Being East-Central European is an essential part of our identity, thus the group's name CHOCHOŁY (Eng: straw, mulch, stacks) references Polish landscape, culture and tradition. The central idea behind the group is 'variety in unity' which we understand as achieving common goals while respecting each member's individual style of expression. Our goal is evolution, not revolution. In the CHOCHOŁY collective we study relationships between the works of our members, and believe that the consequence of our approach to creating art results in personal development. CHOCHOŁY is created by young people who deeply experience, analyze and process the surrounding reality. We use art to portray the condition of being East-Central European - together with its particular needs and challenges. Agata's works deal with the topic of powerlessness and limitations, the confrontation between ideas and reality. Urszula undertakes a willful polemic with the world around her. Magda's installations express the ambiguity of reality through exploration of difficult and controversial issues. Misia's works discuss the relationships and interdependence between human beings and nature, while Faustyna's art touches upon the sphere of contemplation and mindfulness.
